Sherry Wilson Butler brings grace, maturity and plenty of professional experience to the Vurb artist roster. She is an educator, lyricist, short story writer, and performing & recording artist who is deep rooted in the “Philly Sound.”

Her career spans over thirty years in the industry, and Sherry is the only Philadelphia entertainer who has worked as a back-up vocalist and toured internationally with both of the city’s classic soul male crooning Grammy Award winners, Teddy Pendergrass and Billy Paul. Sherry’s contemporary jazz experiences have been with noted musicians Gerald Veasley, Monnette Sudler, the Arpeggio Jazz Ensemble, John Blake and Doc Gibbs, musical director the “Emeril Live” show.

While Sherry has established her own eclectic mode of vocal styling, her work is exemplified through a diverse repertoire of upbeat contemporary jazz, R&B, pop, gospel, and Latin selections. Sherry’s deep resonating contralto haunts audiences with influences of Betty Carter, Diane Reeves, Phyllis Hyman and Sarah Vaughn, yet she unmistakably stands on her own dynamic accord. Presently, Sherry is quite busy performing and teaching, which she does at her own SherrVocalise Philadelphia studio, and at the Philadelphia Clef Club for Jazz & Performing Arts. In addition, she is a speaker, workshop leader/facilitator, member of several prominent organizations including Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., and founder/director of the SheChelleCarriMe Foundation, an organization established to educate and assist aspiring performing artists.
