Born: October 17 (Libra) Where: Influences: Chaka Khan, Toni Morrison, Fast Fact: Stephanie is one of the most
sampled voices in the modern soul movement, though few people know that
it’s her voice they’re using. She is the progenitor of the
now-infamous “Y’all ready to settle down and get with this
…” sound byte from the intro to Jill Scott’s debut
CD. Heard On: Over 150 commercials, film/TV and CD-ROM voice-overs/narrations; Seen At/On: The Clinic (Singapore), Prince Music Theater (Philadelphia),
Billie Holiday Theater (NYC), VIBE Magazine, The Poets’ Joint (mHz Network), the 2000 Republican National Convention Seen With: Jill Scott, John Legend,
Malcolm-Jamal Warner, Kindred The Family Soul, Don Cheadle,
Jordan Walker-Pearlman, the Chieftains, Black Ice, the Poemcees,
Lizz Fields and She likes to call
herself SYNTHESIS, The Sultry Funk Diva. In actuality, synthesis is more of a
daily practice for Stephanie Renée than a moniker. The
Philadelphia-based ingénue has a special knack for bringing different
people, styles and skills together and improving them somehow. But by no means
is it her only gift. A humble servant
to the arts, Stephanie uses her music to bring greater understanding and upliftment to her audiences. With songwriting and vocal
abilities that groove and dip across genre, she masterfully combines
influences from jazz, soul, house and rock music into a mix of rhythms that
seduces and entrances her listeners. Simply put, Stephanie Renée is a
performer who instinctively tunes into the audience and makes folks feel good. After a
three-year stint as a featured vocalist at Zanzibar Blue, |
